In November of 2020, I spent two months living in the Utah desert just outside Capitol Reef National park, a landscape littered with twenty-million-year-old volcanic boulders, carried down from northern Utah by a glacier.
I crafted this piece by splitting open one of these boulders and polishing the internal face, a mix of reflective glassy surface and the pits of captured air.
The photography was taken with the piece in the very spot I originally pulled the stone from.
