ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Marcus Vinicius De Paula is a Brazilian-American sculptor working with stone, light, and site. His practice considers legacy, geological and cosmic timescales, and humanity’s place within them.

Ancient materials—granite, alabaster, marble, travertine, and volcanic stone—are cut, polished, and illuminated to create forms that feel simultaneously archaeological and speculative. Drawing on Brazilian Modernism and Brutalism as well as a lifelong proximity to space exploration, De Paula creates sculptures and site-responsive installations that operate as thresholds between terrestrial history and imagined futures.
